Professor Frank Cariaga 8th Degree Black Belt He was born in Salinas, California in March 1946. He began his Martial Arts career in 1968 after returning from Viet Nam. Received his Black Belt from Grandmaster Joseph Halbuna in 1973. Founded the Kajukenbo Demo Team in 1973. Then later, Sijo Emperado honored the team by declaring them the Official Demo Team of the Kajukenbo System. Prof Cariaga, was directly under the guidance of Sijo Emperado for the remainder of his career. The Team then performed at the most prestigious Karate Tournaments in the country, U.S. Open, Diamond Nationals, Lama Nationals, Battle of Atlanta, National Karate Finals, California Karate Championships, West Coast Nationals, Top Ten Nationals, MGM Grand Reno Nv., San Francisco 49ners, Oakland Raiders. They were Featured in Black Belt Magazine and Karate Illustrated Magazine. Professor Cariaga was promoted to 8th Degree in 1999 by Sijo Emperado. He had the privilege of knowing and performing for all the heads of the five branches of Kajukenbo, Grandmasters Aleju Reyes, Tony Ramos, Joseph Halbuna, Charles Gaylord, and Al Dacascos. He has instructed hundreds of dedicated students, the old hard style way, tough physical contact. He is a member of the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
