Kajukenbo Ch'uan-Fa
Co-Founder Tum-Pai and Ch'uan-Fa

Grandmaster DelaCruz was born in Hawaii in 1942. His first training in the fighting arts began in his teens when he got involved in the Golden Gloves boxing program. He started his Kajukenbo training in the late 1950s with Prof. Sid Asuncion. After becoming Asuncion's first black belt he started advanced training with Sijo Emperado. Eventually he began assisting Sijo with his classes at the Palama Settlement school. It was during this time that Sijo Emperado, DelaCruz, and Al Dacascos started work on the development of the TumPai branch of Kajukenbo. When Prof. Dacascos moved to California in 1965, Sijo Emperado and DelaCruz took the development in another direction that eventually became the "Chuan Fa" branch of Kajukenbo. Over the decades Grandmaster DelaCruz trained many black belts, and is considered the leading exponant of the Chuan Fa branch. In addition to his martial arts interests, Grandmaster DelaCruz was a career police officer, and retired from the Honolulu Police Department.
